HOWLIN' WOLF
KWEM 1948-1953

Howlin’ Wolf was discovered by Sam Phillips, who heard Wolf performing live on KWEM in 1951. Wolf, after performing at KWEM for 5 years, became the heart and soul of the Chicago Blues and cut national hit records at soon-to-be SUN Records and at KWEM. Wolf was the king of the West Memphis Blues scene. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine ranked him number 51 on their list of the "100 Greatest Artists of All Time." The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame lists three songs by Howlin' Wolf in the "500 Songs That Shaped Rock and Roll."
